Creating an animated adventure from scratch can be a real odyssey, but if you follow the examples in Wintermute Engine Development Kit, it'll be easier than you imagined.

This is an excellent engine to create full animated adventures with 2D and 3D characters. That said, if you have no programming skills, forget about it. But it's helpful to know that the language it uses has a syntax similar to C.

The script editor lets you program the behavior of every element: menus, objects, characters, settings, and so on. Resolutions range from 320x200 to 1024x768 with a color depth of 16 or 32 bits. You can also use different languages.

The engine also includes a separate sprite editor and a level editor where you can create character movement by combining several images, one on top of the other, or divide the scene into layers and demarcate areas to make them interactive.
